Brantford

The partnership between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Brantford is one of the areas of the city community’s international cooperation. Brantford is officially listed among Kamianets-Podilskyi’s partner cities on the City Council’s resources and international municipal platforms.

Official Establishment of the Partnership

An important milestone was the signing of the twinning agreement on 1 April 2022. The document laid the foundation for the development of cooperation between the two cities and provided for collaboration in the areas of youth policy, tourism and culture, science and education, environmental protection and the preservation of cultural heritage, as well as the exchange of experience in various fields.

The initiative to establish the twinning relations was launched with the involvement of representatives of the Ukrainian community in Canada and was supported by the City of Brantford authorities. The House of Commons of Canada also noted that the agreement was reached directly between the mayors of the two cities.

Support for Ukraine

The partnership was established during the first months of the full-scale war, making support for Ukraine one of the important practical aspects of the cooperation. When the twinning was announced, the Canadian side emphasised its readiness to provide practical support to Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homes because of the war. In particular, Brantford welcomed Ukrainians seeking a safe place to live and engaged local organisations in supporting the Ukrainian community.

Tourism and Cultural Heritage

Another area identified in the agreement is the development of tourism and the preservation of cultural heritage. This is particularly relevant for Kamianets-Podilskyi given the city’s significant historical and cultural potential. At the same time, cooperation in this area can facilitate the exchange of experience between the municipalities and promote the tourism opportunities of both communities.

The partnership between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Brantford brings together municipal dialogue, humanitarian support, and educational, youth, cultural, and tourism cooperation. The officially defined areas of cooperation provide a foundation for further developing contacts and implementing joint initiatives between the Ukrainian and Canadian communities.
