Głogów County
Cooperation between Kamianets-Podilskyi and the Polish partners from Głogów and Głogów County dates back to 2004, when a partnership cooperation agreement was concluded between Kamianets-Podilskyi and the city of Głogów. At the same time, contacts between the communities had begun to develop even earlier through professional ties between educators from Kamianets-Podilskyi and Głogów. Subsequently, Głogów County also became actively involved in the development of the partnership.
In 2019, Kamianets-Podilskyi marked the 15th anniversary of cooperation with Głogów and Głogów County, demonstrating the longstanding and stable nature of the partnership.
Main Areas of Cooperation
The partnership covers a wide range of areas, including education, culture, sport, tourism, social services, healthcare, and economic cooperation. The official website of the City of Głogów notes that cooperation with Kamianets-Podilskyi initially focused primarily on social assistance, healthcare, and education, and was later expanded to include cultural cooperation.
A particular place within the partnership is occupied by direct contacts between representatives of local self-government, educational institutions, and other institutions of the two communities. Such contacts contribute to the exchange of experience, the development of professional ties, and the establishment of new joint initiatives.
Education and Youth Cooperation
Education was one of the first areas in which contacts between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Głogów were established. Professional ties between educators laid the foundation for the further development of the partnership between the two cities.
Subsequent cooperation included contacts between educational institutions and youth exchanges. An important element of the partnership was the opportunity for children and young people to visit Poland, participate in international events, and become acquainted with the cultural and social life of the partner community. In particular, reports of the Kamianets-Podilskyi City Council mention the organization of trips to Poland for children from socially vulnerable categories.
Social and Humanitarian Cooperation
An important area of the partnership has been support for the social sphere and assistance to the residents of Kamianets-Podilskyi. According to official materials of the Kamianets-Podilskyi City Council, partners from Głogów and Głogów County provided assistance to children with disabilities, including aids supporting motor development.
As part of the cooperation, medicines worth PLN 30,000 were also provided, while Głogów County supplied Kamianets-Podilskyi firefighters with a specialized device for detecting people in smoke-filled premises or under rubble. This equipment enhanced the capabilities of rescuers and contributed to more effective responses to emergency situations.
Following the outbreak of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the humanitarian component of the partnership gained particular importance. The official tourism website of Głogów notes that humanitarian aid was provided to Kamianets-Podilskyi, including essential supplies and medical equipment.
The partnership between Kamianets-Podilskyi, Głogów, and Głogów County is an example of longstanding Ukrainian-Polish intermunicipal cooperation, which over more than two decades has developed from educational contacts into broad cooperation in the social, humanitarian, cultural, sports, tourism, and economic spheres.
The partnership has acquired particular significance in the context of the full-scale war, when the support provided by the Polish partners complemented the traditional areas of cooperation with concrete humanitarian and medical assistance. At the same time, sustained contacts between local self-government bodies, educational institutions, businesses, and civic organizations provide a foundation for the further development of Ukrainian-Polish partnership and joint initiatives.
