Głogów
The partnership between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Głogów is one of the areas of the Kamianets-Podilskyi community’s international cooperation. Głogów is officially listed among Kamianets-Podilskyi’s partner cities, while the Głogów municipal authorities also recognize Kamianets-Podilskyi as a partner city.
Beginning of Cooperation
The official partnership agreement between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Głogów was concluded in 2004. At the same time, according to the official Głogów city website, contacts between the two cities began to develop even before the agreement was signed, particularly through cooperation between teachers from the Mechanical School in Głogów and the Industrial Vocational School in Kamianets-Podilskyi. Subsequently, the Głogów County (Powiat Głogowski) also became involved in developing these contacts.
Educational and Professional Cooperation
An important area of the partnership has been cooperation between educational institutions. The Polytechnic School Complex in Głogów states that since 2010, it has implemented seven international vocational and cultural projects with the Industrial College in Kamianets-Podilskyi. These included educational and professional initiatives aimed at exchanging experience between students and teachers.
A separate example of municipal exchange was the participation of representatives of Kamianets-Podilskyi in Polish programmes aimed at familiarizing Ukrainian local self-government bodies with Polish experience. In March 2015, Ukrainian representatives visited Głogów, where they learned about the work of the municipal administration and municipal enterprises. Głogów was included in the programme specifically due to its long-standing cooperation with Ukraine, particularly with Kamianets-Podilskyi.
Cooperation in the Field of Security and Support for Rescue Services
In 2017, the partnership contacts developed further in the field of civil security. The Kamianets-Podilskyi City Council reported that representatives of the Kamianets-Podilskyi fire and rescue service were invited to Głogów to participate in a county-level competition, and the Polish partners offered to support the firefighters of Kamianets-Podilskyi. The City Council linked this initiative to previous international contacts and the support that Kamianets-Podilskyi had received from its partner cities.
Cooperation Following the Outbreak of the Full-Scale War
Following the outbreak of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the partnership relations acquired new significance. In March 2022, Rafał Rokaszewicz, Mayor of Głogów, emphasized that Kamianets-Podilskyi is a partner city of Głogów, with which the two sides have maintained good contacts in the areas of youth and teacher exchanges, cooperation between entrepreneurs, and the exchange of experience between local self-government representatives. He also reported on the organization of assistance for Kamianets-Podilskyi at the request of the Ukrainian side, in particular for the city hospital and local residents.
This demonstrates that, in the context of the war, the partnership has gone beyond traditional municipal contacts and has also become a mechanism of solidarity and humanitarian support.
The partnership between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Głogów is an important component of the international cooperation of both communities. Their long-standing cooperation encompasses intermunicipal contacts, educational and professional exchanges, mutual visits, the exchange of experience, and humanitarian support, demonstrating the multifaceted nature of the partnership.
The established ties provide a solid foundation for further strengthening cooperation, developing new areas of interaction, and implementing joint initiatives, while also contributing to maintaining friendly relations and mutual understanding between the Ukrainian and Polish communities.
