Roman

Partnership relations between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Roman are one of the areas of the community’s international cooperation. The city of Roman is officially listed among Kamianets-Podilskyi’s partner cities, and the partnership dates back to 25 November 2011.

Municipal Dialogue and Mutual Contacts

An important component of the cooperation has been contacts between local government authorities and mutual visits by representatives of the two communities. In particular, in May 2014, a delegation from Roman visited Kamianets-Podilskyi on the occasion of the City Day celebrations. During the visit, representatives of the Romanian community took part in cultural events and meetings with representatives of Kamianets-Podilskyi. An official report by the Municipality of Roman confirms that Kamianets-Podilskyi is a sister city of Roman.

Humanitarian Cooperation

The partnership relations gained particular importance during periods when Kamianets-Podilskyi required additional support. As early as 2014, following an appeal from the Kamianets-Podilskyi municipal authorities, the Municipality of Roman launched a humanitarian campaign to support residents of the community and internally displaced persons from areas affected by the hostilities. The campaign collected clothing, footwear, blankets, bed linen, and other essential items.

Humanitarian support continued following the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. In April 2022, a humanitarian aid shipment was sent from Roman to Kamianets-Podilskyi, with contributions from local businesses, residents, and the municipality. The aid was handed over to representatives of the Red Cross for further transportation to Kamianets-Podilskyi.

Contemporary Stage of Cooperation

The partnership between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Roman provides opportunities for further development of inter-municipal contacts, humanitarian cooperation, cultural ties, and the exchange of experience. The long-standing history of partnership creates a solid foundation for new joint initiatives and for further strengthening cooperation between the Ukrainian and Romanian communities.

Partnership relations between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Roman contribute to maintaining a continuous dialogue and developing cooperation between the two communities. Established contacts, mutual visits, and joint initiatives provide a foundation for strengthening friendly relations, exchanging experience, and further expanding cooperation.
