Siret

Partnership relations between Kamianets-Podilskyi and the Romanian city of Siret were officially established on 21 August 2015, when the mayors of the two cities signed a cooperation agreement. The conclusion of the agreement marked an important step in the development of Ukrainian-Romanian intermunicipal relations and the formalisation of friendly ties between the two communities. Siret became one of Kamianets-Podilskyi’s partner cities.

Main Areas of Cooperation

The partnership between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Siret is aimed at developing intermunicipal dialogue, economic ties, tourism, and joint project activities. At the outset of the partnership, particular attention was paid to opportunities for developing the tourism potential of both cities, strengthening economic cooperation, and preparing joint grant projects.

The geographical location of Siret — a city in northern Romania, in Suceava County, located in close proximity to the Ukrainian border — is of particular importance for such cooperation. This creates favorable conditions for developing cross-border contacts and practical interaction between Ukrainian and Romanian communities. The official investment portal of Kamianets-Podilskyi currently lists Siret among the community’s partner cities.

Tourism and Economic Cooperation

One of the established areas of the partnership is the development of tourism and economic contacts. At the time of signing the cooperation agreement, the parties viewed the partnership as an opportunity to strengthen Ukrainian-Romanian ties in these areas, as well as to jointly prepare and implement grant initiatives.

For Kamianets-Podilskyi, cooperation with Siret is of additional importance given the strategic location of the partner city near the Ukrainian-Romanian border. This geographical position facilitates the development of contacts with Romanian communities and creates opportunities for the further involvement of Kamianets-Podilskyi in cross-border and European initiatives.

International and Cross-Border Significance

The partnership with Siret is part of the broader development of Kamianets-Podilskyi’s international relations with cities in Romania and other European communities. Siret’s participation in the network of Kamianets-Podilskyi’s international partners strengthens opportunities for the exchange of experience, the establishment of professional contacts, and the exploration of new forms of cooperation. The official economic resource of Kamianets-Podilskyi also includes Siret in the list of the community’s partner cities.

Cooperation between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Siret is an example of Ukrainian-Romanian intermunicipal partnership, combining friendly relations between the communities with practical areas of interaction, including the development of tourism, economic ties, and joint project activities.

Siret’s geographical proximity to Ukraine and its location along an important cross-border route create additional opportunities for deepening cooperation. At the same time, the existence of a formally established partnership provides a foundation for further developing contacts between representatives of local self-government, civil society institutions, and other stakeholders from the two communities.
