Valle de Mena
Partnership relations between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Valle de Mena represent an important component of the community's international cooperation. Collaboration between the cities fosters the development of friendly contacts, the exchange of experience, and the implementation of joint initiatives, strengthening the ties between the Ukrainian and Spanish communities.
Establishment and Development of Partnership Relations
The history of contacts between the communities has a longstanding foundation. According to the official municipal bulletin of Valle de Mena, friendly ties with Kamianets-Podilskyi began back in 1999 during a Cultural Week, which featured a performance by the Ukrainian folklore ensemble Horlytsia. These cultural contacts served as one of the first practical directions of interaction between the two communities.
Cultural and Artistic Cooperation
Cultural exchange holds an important place in the relationship. In 2015, Valle de Mena hosted the Ukrainian folklore ensemble Horlychka from Kamianets-Podilskyi. Over the course of several days, the young Ukrainian performers showcased traditional Ukrainian music and dance during cultural events in the municipality, including performances for local residents and visitors of municipal institutions. The Municipality of Valle de Mena characterized this event as a cultural exchange aimed at bringing Ukrainian and Spanish cultures closer together.
Youth Cooperation and Volunteer Exchanges
Youth interaction has become another important direction of cooperation. In 2007, a group of 15 young residents of Valle de Mena traveled to Ukraine to participate as volunteers in the "Terra Heroica" festival in Kamianets-Podilskyi. The trip took place within the framework of a youth exchange program and was aimed at joint youth activities, cultural exploration, and international communication.
Thus, youth contacts have become a key component of the partnership, complementing cultural cooperation with direct interaction between the young people of both communities.
The partnership between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Valle de Mena developed gradually—evolving from cultural and youth contacts into official sister-city relations. Mutual visits, cultural exchanges, youth initiatives, and support for Ukraine have become essential components of the relationship between the communities. Existing ties create a solid foundation for the further development of the partnership, the exchange of experience, and the implementation of joint initiatives.
