Herrljunga
The partnership between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Herrljunga is one of the areas of the city community’s international cooperation. Herrljunga is officially listed among Kamianets-Podilskyi’s partners, while the Swedish municipality also lists Kamianets-Podilskyi among its partner cities. According to the official website of Herrljunga Municipality, the long-term partnership between Herrljunga and Kamianets-Podilskyi was established in 2008.
Municipal Partnership and Exchange of Experience
One of the important areas of cooperation has been the exchange of experience in the field of local self-government and community development. Herrljunga’s international cooperation contributes to establishing long-term partnerships with European municipalities, sharing knowledge, and exploring new approaches to the development of local communities.
Cooperation with Kamianets-Podilskyi has developed, in particular, within the framework of a programme of the Swedish International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD), aimed at strengthening local self-government and facilitating the exchange of practical experience.
Cooperation in Social Protection and Support for Children
One of the most specific areas of the partnership has been cooperation in the field of social protection, support for children and families. Within the framework of the “Children’s Great Growth” project, implemented in 2019–2022 with the participation of Herrljunga, Kamianets-Podilskyi, and Ukmergė (Lithuania), the municipalities exchanged experience in addressing social challenges within families and creating favourable conditions for children’s development.
The project included seminars, professional training, and the development of approaches to implementing family centre methodologies focused on the needs of children and their families. Particular attention was paid to the early identification of social challenges, prevention of their occurrence, and improvement of social services.
Sustainable Development and International Projects
Another area of cooperation has been sustainable community development. The Swedish International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD) highlights a joint project involving Mariestad, Kamianets-Podilskyi, and Ukmergė, aimed at identifying sustainable solutions for the development of cities and communities in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
Although this project directly brought together Kamianets-Podilskyi, Mariestad, and Ukmergė, it took place within the broader context of Swedish-Ukrainian municipal partnerships, which also includes cooperation between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Herrljunga.
Cooperation between Kamianets-Podilskyi and Herrljunga is an important component of the city community’s international relations. The established contacts and cooperation between the two sides contribute to strengthening friendly relations, maintaining partnership dialogue, and creating a foundation for the further development of cooperation.
